Astronanigans for the End of April 2021

The sun departed impulsive Aries yesterday for the slower and more methodical sign of Taurus. Taurus is typically that time of year where we ease into warmth and abundance from out of the cold. Yet as we enter Taurus season this year, we have some tense transits that could potentially cause us some trouble. Uranus has been in Taurus for a long time now and planets transiting though will inevitably pass over him, flinging unexpected challenges from left field. You can look at the house you have Taurus in to see what areas of life will be affected.

Uranus has also been making a hard square to Saturn, which is often indicates societal tensions between the old established order, or those with political influence, and everybody else. Saturn in Aquarius usually signifies reevaluating power structures and Uranus making a square to it from stable and material Taurus tells us many people have had more difficulty recently trying to make ends meet. Whether due to the loss of a job, income, health crises, or childcare, more folks are finding themselves in a process of reevaluating their material needs just out of sheer necessity. When these two planets exchange angry glances, we often see massive demonstrations or protests. More political and economic tension seems loom on the horizon.

All this coincides with Mars entering sensitive Cancer (see chart below left). In fact, Mars takes one step in that wet sign, he slips, and he falls! Yes, Mars falls in Cancer! Mars, the planet of drive, desire, and passion feels paralyzed by all the emotional concerns of Cancer. Therefore, he doesn’t do much while there. The silver lining to this is that over the next several days, including today, Jupiter is making a friendly trine to Mars, prompting him to keep his composure a bit. This transit could inspire some benevolent activity or drive around plans or projects you may have going on.

Take note of what house Mars is entering for you and expect to feel the impulse to attend to those matters. I have Cancer in the 6th house and Lizabell has it in the 7th. Mars finds his joy in the 6th house, according to the Hellenistic tradition, but he is also a malefic, so whatever the area of life, the need to conserve our energy will be a common theme. Mars spends a lot of extra energy just wading through the Cancer swamp, so please do your best not to be rushed or in a hurry. That’s when Martian accidents happen! Make sure to take breaks, to keep up on your nutrition, and stay well hydrated. That will put you in good stead for a lively Gemini season, when Venus will also enter Cancer, but at that time, Mars will make an opposition to Pluto… oh snap…
